Greetings, fellow musical travelers. If you're anything like me, you know what type of music you like, you want to expand your musical horizons, but you don't have time to spend days on iTunes or listening to Pandora to figure out new artists and songs to listen to.
There are programs out there that can suggest music for you to listen to based on a song you have chosen, but I'm suspicious of technology. See, e.g., Skynet, Borg, that supercomputer built by Richard Pryor in Superman III. Remember when we used to actually "talk" about songs we liked, and then our friends would suggest songs like it that they'd heard and enjoyed?
This is an attempt to recreate that dynamic. Anybody who sends me a song, I will post it in a new entry with no judgment, and no commentary. In the comments, anybody who knows the song, and knows other songs like it (hopefully off-the-beaten-path, non-mainstream acts) will suggest 5 songs they enjoy that in their mind are like that song, whether in terms of mood, melodies, rhythm, energy, etc. The songs can be in any category - from classical to punk. If you know of links (nothing copyright infringing) to the songs online, you can put those in the comments too. I will not edit comments for content, just for extenZe ads and profanities. So try to keep it clean.
